The Progress Project is based in Montgomery, Alabama, as is Hyundai’s U.S. manufacturing facility. Starting this Black History Month, Hyundai will make donations of $15,000 each to three local Black-owned businesses in the Montgomery, Alabama area.

"Our U.S. manufacturing facility is proud to call Montgomery home," said Dana White, chief communications officer at Hyundai Motor North America. "Montgomery is a city rich in culture and a cornerstone in the civil rights movement. The pandemic has been particularly hard for small businesses and as a member of this vibrant community Hyundai wants to help these businesses grow and thrive."

The first three businesses to receive donations as part of the Progress Project were determined by team members at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama. These businesses are King's Canvas, Plant Bae, and Jozettie's Cupcakes.

King's Canvas is an art and social justice organization with the goal to provide opportunities and access to underexposed artists. With the money, King's Canvas will create an outdoor gathering space to host community events, art walks, and more.

Plant Bae is a woman-owned vegan restaurant that is a local favorite in the downtown area of Montgomery. With the money provided by the Progress Project, Plant Bae will make aesthetic and interior modifications to elevate their look.

The third business to receive a donation from Hyundai's Progress Project is Jozettie's Cupcakes. This family-run bakery is another local staple in the Montgomery area. Jozettie's Cupcakes is known not only for their delicious sweets, but also their long history of giving back to the community. The bakery will expand their capabilities at their second location with their donation money.

If you would like to learn more about the businesses selected for the Progress Project, visit Hyundai's social media pages. As part of their corporate social responsibility programming, Hyundai plans to expand this project to other markets and businesses. Hyundai understands the importance of supporting the Montgomery community and uplifting black-owned businesses. Even though this project is launched during Black History Month, Hyundai is dedicated to uplifting the Black community year-round.
