Island Hyundai would like to highlight two rival sports cars and get a glimpse of what’s coming to the market by the end of the year. How does the 2022 Hyundai Elantra N & 2022 Subaru WRX compare?
The Elantra N is expected to beat the WRX onto the market by arriving by the end of the year. WRX should be available in early 2022.
Both vehicles have similar horsepower, but we do not yet have data on the WRX’s top speed capabilities. The Elantra N tops out at 155 mph with a wicked quick 5.3 second 0-60 mph. They each have a 6-speed manual transmission, but the Elantra N has 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. The WRX utilizes Subaru’s Performance Transmission system.
The Elantra N has a four-wheel drive with slip differential, while the WRX has a symmetrical all-wheel drive with active torque vectoring. The WRX has a slightly large 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine, whereas the Elantra N has a 2.0-liter engine. The biggest performance difference boils down to FWD vs AWD performance, so that much depends on buyer preference.
Looks wise, the Elantra N appears to go after a more aggressive look. The aspect that stands out most is the painted accents (especially near the bottom). The Subaru model has a much more traditional appearance. The wheel arches might be the distinguishing feature.

What about interior technology? Both models are pretty current with the latest infotainment software and gadgets. They each have comparable touchscreens, just shaped differently (portrait view for Subaru; landscape touchscreen for Hyundai). The Elantra N focuses on the N-exclusive interface, which allows the driver to get a great gauge on performance measures like oil, torque, and boost.
