NY 2016 Sonata | New Brunswick Hyundai Dealership

The Hyundai Sonata is a well-established family sedan that easily holds its own in a class of competitors such as Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, Ford Fusion, and Chevrolet Malibu. The 2016 Sonata, now in its seventh generation, brings with it the sleek redesign of the 2015 model. Naturally, many New & used car buyers may well wonder just what changes are in store for the new model following last year’s facelift. While the 2016 Sonata receives a few updates and revisions, don’t expect another complete overhaul.
NY 2016 Hyundai Sonata?Hyundai continues the Sonata’s conservative good looks and refinement in the 2016 models – the SE, Sport, Limited, Sport 2.0T, Eco, Limited 2.0T, and the Sonata Hybrid. Gone is the flamboyant styling of the 2014 model, replaced by a more grown-up feeling of class. The design of the 2015 and 2016 Sonata takes a page from the book of Genesis, the Sonata’s close cousin. Shaped by Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture design, Sonata’s sweeping lines speak of quiet grace and power.

Sonata’s imposing front grille is a handsome arrangement of polygonal lights and shapes, with paired strips of LED lights lining the inside. For 2016, the Limited and Sport models also get an updated bumper with three-bar grille. Sonata’s built body is all business, with an arching fastback roofline and upward flourish to the doors. A stiff, compact structure helps the Sonata dampen out road bumps and take direction well. In fact, Hyundai has revised the suspension for 2016, integrating aluminum components which promise to aid both in steering and ride quality.

Inside Sonata’s cabin, you are at once surrounded by formal elegance. Every detail is attended to, and the result feels seamless and finished. An ample center console is updated for 2016 with a generous 7 or 8 inch color touchscreen display. The feature-packed hands-free infotainment system also includes Google’s Android Auto smartphone system, audio compatibility for Pandora and SoundHound, Apple Eyes Free Siri integration, rearview backup camera, USB ports, and the soon-to-come Apple CarPlay. There’s plenty of interior room for all you six-foot-somethings out there, both for heads and knees, with comfortable and cushioned seating. Multitudes of storage bins are perfect for hiding treasures, and trunk space is more than ample at 16.3 cubic feet.

One of the lighter cars in its class, the Sonata offers 4 cylinders and plenty o’ ponies. The base models’ 185-horsepower 2.4-liter engine as well as the Sport’s 245-horsepower 2.0 liter engine feels both strong and smooth. A six-speed automatic tranny with Shiftronic control, shift lock, and lock-up torque converter is standard, while Sport 2.0T models upgrade with paddle shifters, sport suspension, sport-tuned steering, quad exhaust tips, rear diffuser, 18-inch wheels, aluminum pedals, and sport seats. Sonata’s safety resume includes blind-spot monitors, adaptive cruise control, driver knee airbags, and a forward collision system with emergency braking.

Yes, it’s true: Hyundai is not revealing a drastically overhauled Sonata for 2016. The few changes you’re likely to see between the 2015 and 2016 sedans include a larger multimedia touchscreen system, minor improvements to the grille, revised suspension, and a slightly heftier price tag. Hyundai’s second helping of this stylish mid-size sedan seems to call to mind the old adage “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
